Description: Are you a new gardener? Have you tried raised bed gardening in St. John’s? What do you need to know to successfully grow vegetables for your table (and not the slugs)? Are you interested in passing along what you’ve learned already to new gardeners? Please join FEASt Get Growing Neighbourhoods and help us build a network of gardeners in the city.

Third Annual FEASt Open Garden Day (Register Now)

We are happy to announce the third annual Open Garden Day, 12 – 4 pm, Sunday, August 21st, 2011.

Open Garden Day is a chance for those interested in or already growing their own food to take a self-guided tour through the many gardens in the city. FEASt will provide a map to all the participating gardens. Open Garden Day has been timed to coincide with the 3rd annual Folklife Festival if Newfoundland and Labrador; this year, the festival’s theme is Seeds to Supper.

If you have a vegetable garden, backyard chickens, goats, a greenhouse, raised beds, containers, or anything that makes food, and you would like to have your garden listed in the Open Garden Day map, please send your name, address and a brief description of your garden to promotions@feastnl.ca. The map will be made available in early August.

FEASt has been awarded a 2010 Newfoundland & Labrador Environmental Award Honourable Mention in the Community Group/Organization category!

Congratulations to all the organizers and volunteers of the Get Growing Neighbourhoods Project for winning this award. FEASt was publicly acknowledged earlier this month by the Province, MMSB and the NL Women’s Institute our efforts in supporting local food production and environmental sustainability right in our city’s backyards.
